Collecting Coca Cola Memorabilia
Do you remember the coke song from the 1970′s, “I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, I’d like to buy the world a coke and keep
it company”? If you are a big fan of Coca Cola, then this song is that will definitely bring back emotions, feeling, and memories of days gone by.
Collecting Coca Cola memorabilia is a favorite past time that has turned into a pleasant collection for many. All kinds of Coca Cola things that might be found in a collection, including old Coca Cola signs, contour bottles, vending machines and ice chests. Don’t forget the Coca Cola polar bears, or the famous Coca Cola Santa Clause that were integral parts of Coca Cola’s advertising campaigns. Coke, as it is so affectionately called, has been around a long time, and there are many collectibles and Coca Cola memorabilia items to delight any collector.
Only Buy “The Real Thing”:
Since 1886, Coke has been a popular beverage that has generated many different types of collectibles. Unfortunately, it has also been the target of counterfeit and imitation products. When collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, be sure you are purchasing only licensed products with the official trademark. A couple of things to keep in mind is that the Coca Cola logo has changed in display throughout the years, in addition Coca Cola has offered reproductions of some their original items. Because Coca Cola has become a global product, there are foreign country collections that can be started as well, and they are “real” Coca Cola memorabilia. Just like in Coke’s life long advertising campaign, make sure it is the real thing, if you want it to have collectible value.
Coca Cola and the Olympics:
Since 1928, Coca Cola was a major sponsor of the Olympic Games and there have been special Coke bottles and pins issued for every summer and winter set of games. For some collectors, collecting Coca Cola memorabilia from the Olympics have become a collection by itself, regardless of any other items in their collections. There are special edition collector items made by Coke for the Olympic Games, including the Coke bottles in tubes and the Crystal Coke bottle for Opening Ceremonies. If you are interested in the Olympics and you love Coke, collecting Coca Cola memorabilia that pertains to a special occasion is possible and fun to do, besides having collector edition status.
Another piece of advice about collecting Coca Cola memorabilia is to consider starting a collection of the Coca Cola trays, if you haven’t already. There are close to fifty different trays to collect and the ones that are free of rust and before 1950 are the ones worth the most money. More recent ones aren’t appreciated yet, but if you have them, make sure to keep them rust-free and don’t use them for normal occasions because wet glasses can cause rusty areas. Keep in mind that Coke released some reproductions, so make sure you are collecting the originals, for the most appreciation in your collection.
Coca Cola Prints:
The original Coca Cola prints are the early advertisements for Coke that were started in 1931. Before television, they became a popular way to advertise and the printed posters were as popular as the metal Coca Cola signs that hung in front of the town drugstore. There have been reproductions made of them, but original prints can be found for sale on the Internet and at antique dealers or swap meets held for those collecting Coca Cola memorabilia.
